Like so many successful independent publishers, Wilkinson Media was established with the singular focus of serving one collection of markets: the coatings and finishing industry. Its role of connecting buyers and sellers of coating and finishing products was driven by the trade title of Canadian Finishing & Coatings Manufacturing magazine. A commitment to readers and editorial content above all allowed Wilkinson to grow and expand its influence in the coatings and finishing industry in Canada.
Pete Wilkinson launched CFCM in 2007.
He had chosen a difficult time to start a new publishing venture, as the financial meltdown of 2008 cut advertising budgets across the board. It is an indication of his skill and persistence that the publication survived and prospered through this period. CFCM was initially published as a tabloid but switched to the more conventional journal format in 2015.
Wilkinson was recognized two years before his death by the Canadian Paint and Coatings Association and presented with the Roy Kennedy Award, CPCA’s highest level of recognition for those that support and give back to the industry. CPCA presents this award each year to an individual who epitomizes Roy Kennedy’s dedication to the paint and coatings industry and their outstanding volunteer service to the association and its members.
CFCM continues today as a publishing company under the direction of Kerrwil Publications Limited but maintians the same focus and commitment to the coatings and finishing industry started by Pete Wilkinson. Expanding from the foundation of CFCM magazine, CFCM reaches those in the coatings and finishing industry through an integrated suite of print, digital, online, and web-based platforms.
